Yeah, common knowledge and like so much common knowledge, it's wrong. Yes, urine is theoretically sterile. Theoretically. :)

Also, by drinking urine you do gain some water back into your system. This may help you in very specific short-term cases.

BUT, you also ingest all the impurities that your body worked so hard to eliminate. That means the load of your excretory system increases.

You can't do that for long.

this mite sound disturbing but you can drink your pee it wont hurt you but people how have done it say it is very salty

Guys this might sound gross but it is actually healthier to drink your pee than it is to drink water right out of a lake or river. (unless you use a water purification pump or purification straw)
