  • @shisoshin Please tell me where i can find more information about the chi circulations and mind training for this art

  • Just got news now that Ani'Ichi Miyagi Sensei passed away on Mon, 27 Apr 2009.

  • sanchin 'tension' is progressive, tension..

of course you can tense 'too much', becoming more like a stone statue than a strong human..

correct sanchin is not, unhealthy, generally or for the cardiac system..

fa jing is not separate from sanchin breathing but a less specifically emphasized part of sanchin breathing.. it manifests within the 'cough like' diaphragmatic contractions at kime..

many systems use/have used sanchin training way back in time, before okinawa..

  • much, the floor where he practice was said to remain warm long after he ended practice. Lastly EVERY TIME YOU EXERCISE AND BREATHE YOU ARE TENSING AND BREATHING AT THE SAME TIME SO ACCORDING TO WHAT KORYOKOHA IS SAYING ALL EXERCISE KILLS! Forgive me "screaming" but no one seems to have noticed that flaw in his logic. Every time you exercise, you tense and breathe so by that logic, apparently working out will lead to an early grave.

  • To help settle this little exchange; 1) Sanchin Kata does not say to hold the breath. 2) Breathing in while tensing the muscles is something many bodybuilders do all the time, and I'm sorry but, tensing while holding a weight or actively resisting is arguably "worse" than this. Bodybuilders breathe and tense all the time and assuming they don't juice, most live well past 80. 3) Higashiona sensei, founder of Goju Ryu, died at a ripe old age, and his feet were said to tense the ground so

  • i couldnt agree more

  • No thanks, I had better ask Miyagi himself when I drop dead.

  • The unfounded rumor came from an interview I read of Seikichi Toguchi. Heard of him?? In it he said that Miyagi's daughter overheard him telling that to her mother. If you have a problem with it, take it up with Seikichi Toguchi when you drop dead! I am not arguing the matter, just posting what I came up with in my research of it. Learning White Crane is not a misfortune, it is a blessing. You need to loosen your obi and relax.

  • Of his dozen students who learnt and kept at karate throughout their lives, the great majority lived beyond 80.Chojun Miyagi had unhealty eating habits as he loved to eat fatty meat, and plus the stress of losing all his children during the war,his best student (Shinzato) and years of written works on karate (burnt),the stress of it all caused his heart-failure,not Sanchin kata. If you learnt some Yong Chun White Crane that's your misfortune, but spreading unfounded rumours here is really vile.

  • First of all its untrue because Miyagi Chojun Sensei did not say that before he died. Secondly saying all Goju-practitioners died early deaths is also rubbish since most of that generation suffered greatly during the war from mal-nutrition etc. Present day practitioners like Aniichi Miyagi, Higaonna Morio, Koshin Iha, Shuichi Arakagi are all quite old and healthy. Miyagi never had many real students anyway and they all lived beyond 80 except for Shinzato who was killed by a bomb.
