So I tried Super Mario Galaxy 2, a brand new game by Nintendo on the Dolphin emulator. What can we say? The video says enough, it's definitely a pretty heavy game to emulate, not as heavy as the original Super Mario Galaxy though. Normally I play this game with 45 ~ 60 fps, with Fraps recording it went down to 30 ~ 60 fps. Not bad though.

Oh and yes, I died, I know, for me it was a good reason to stop the video, haha. Just kidding, I just didn't want to make the video too long.

I used a 100% savegame since I'm actually not a big fan of the Super Mario Galaxy series and I don't want to waste my time on this game. I got the 100% savegame from YouTube user "wiiandps2".

I will make another video in a few months and see if the speed increased.

The specific version of Dolphin I used in this video is: Dolphin r5475.

My system:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2 GHz
4GB RAM DDR3 1333 MHz
ATI Radeon 4870 1024MB
500GB HDD

Get Dolphin here: http://www.dolphin-emu.com/ (official website) or here: http://www.dolphin-emulator.com/ (mamario's website)

  • is there anyway to keep it at 60 FPS? cus if it goes lower than that the game starts to slow down.

  • @elpicos8091 You will need a more powerful CPU.

  • @psidos i managed to get it to run at 30-45 fps and if i tun off the sound lol it goes from 45-55 lol, but i dont think a faster cpu will improve i think the emulator just needs to improve in performance. cus my pc is able to play new games like assassins creed 2 and just cause 2 at max settings.

  • @elpicos8091 Time will tell... :)

  • long job dude xD

  • try emulating f zero gx,i get full speed in 720p, couldn't record it tough managed 480p(ive got phenom ii x4 970 3.5ghz be ,try running mp3c,i get crashes too often 5mins in game and a random crash

  • @elpicos8091 ur emulating here, not just playing pc games, a phenom 955 @4ghz isnt enough te emulate at full speed games like mario galaxy with dsp-le enabled, 5ghz maybe

  • @SuperKiraGamer2 I have a wii.

  • @SuperKiraGamer2 yeah, but then again - a new PC is useful for a lot more things than just playing wii games, being able to play other consoles games is just a bonus; and purchasing a console means having to purchase all the games you want to play too, add all that up over time and its prolly just as much money

  • @elpicos8091 No, you need a better computer. Don't base emulator performance on whether or not you can play retail games. Emulators are several times less efficient than the actual console at running the games. You need WAY more computer power to run emulated games than games that are made for the PC. There are computers capable of running this game at full speed, but you're right - the emulator needs to improve also, and it will.

  • @11Supersonic11 you could get a wii for how much you would spend money on a new CPU

  • These guys made very little progress over the years

yah they did improove but very slowly....

  • My game crashes after first grand star :( .I tried everything, but to no avail. It says online 'disable save states' how?

  • If you set frameskip to 1, does it still feel like you're playing it in slowmotion (like it does now, since it's below 60 FPS)? I'm considering getting this CPU, the Phenom II X4 965 to be exact (kinda the same, 3.4GHZ instead of 3.2GHZ), and I can live with 30 FPS. Thank you!
