In part, this is because I am at the beginning, and not the end, of my labors on the world stage. Compared to some of the giants of history who have received this prize — Schweitzer and King; Marshall and Mandela — my accomplishments are slight, he said.

But perhaps the most profound issue surrounding my receipt of this prize is the fact that I am the Commander-in-Chief of a nation in the midst of two wars. One of these wars is winding down. The other is a conflict that America did not seek; one in which we are joined by 43 other countries — including Norway — in an effort to defend ourselves and all nations from further attacks.

"A nonviolent movement could not have halted Hitler's armies. Negotiations cannot convince al-Qaida's leaders to lay down their arms," the American leader said. "To say that force is sometimes necessary is not a call to cynicism, it is a recognition of history."

I face the world as it is, and cannot stand idle in the face of threats to the American people, he said.
For peace is not merely the absence of visible conflict. Only a just peace based upon the inherent rights and dignity of every individual can truly be lasting, he said.

"Compared to some of the giants of history who have received this prize Schweitzer and King; Marshall and Mandela my accomplishments are slight," Obama said.
"Some will kill. Some will be killed," Obama said. "And so I come here with an acute sense of the cost of armed conflict filled with difficult questions about the relationship between war and peace, and our effort to replace one with the other."

He added: "I understand why war is not popular. But I also know this: the belief that peace is desirable is rarely enough to achieve it. Peace requires responsibility. Peace entails sacrifice."
"We lose ourselves when we compromise the very ideals that we fight to defend," Obama said. "And we honor those ideals by upholding them not just when it is easy, but when it is hard."
"I know that engagement with repressive regimes lacks the satisfying purity of indignation," Obama said. "But I also know that sanctions without outreach and condemnation without discussion can carry forward a crippling status quo. No repressive regime can move down a new path unless it has the choice of an open door."

  • Obama is a slick smooth talking CON-fidence man who is likable but a liar who has covered his criminal past history- His FORGED birth certificate is only a small part of his crimes- GOOGLE "LARRY SINCLAIR" he talks about Obama's past when Obama sold him drugs and lots more- I believe LARRY because I know Obama is the biggest FRAUD in history- every part of his past has been tenaciously destroyed- This is not the action of a truthful or even decent man-

  • @jtred74 watch what? obama getting a peace prize for expanding a war?

  • @Twilightifyable Better to David Duke than Obama or Bibi Netansayahoo or Hank Kissinger.

  • President Carter got the peace prize too. You know Obama was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize twelve days after taking office. Upon acceptance of winning it, Obama was praised by the committee, "extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy". . They also gave the peace prize to Yasser Arafat, the leader of the PLO, the best known terrorist organization on the globe. This is like giving it to David Duke, the former Grand Wizard of the KKK.

  • The Pease Prize is dripping with blood after being given to this guy.

  • There is no way war-the act of killing and showing brutality toward another fellow human being-could possibaly lead to peace in any situation. I really don't see why he would say the reason he got the prize was for his leadership of the military-thats not something to be proud of-especially when your using it to kill and cause destruction in another country. Why don't you take the money you going to spend on that atom bomb and go get your country some better health care or something instead?

  • @msblossom77 obama NO BALLS PISS PRIZE!

  • you voted for Barack Obama and you didnt see this stuff coming ??

  • Obama just extended The Patriot Act for another year !!!
