SIDE IMPACT TEST NO SIDE AIRBAGS AVAILABLE

OVERALL EVALUATION: Poor

Head/neck Torso Pelvis/leg
Driver Poor Acceptable Poor Poor Marginal
Rear passenger Good Good Good Marginal

Important: Side impact crash test ratings can be compared across vehicle type and weight categories.
Test details:

The Scion xB was introduced in the 2004 model year.
Injury measures:

Driver — Measures taken from the dummy indicate serious skull fracture and/or brain injuries plus serious neck injuries would be likely in a crash of this severity. A fracture of the pelvis would also be likely, and rib fractures and/or internal organ injuries would be possible.

Rear passenger — Measures taken from the dummy indicate a low risk of any significant injuries in a crash of this severity.
Head protection:

Driver — The dummy's head was hit by the intruding barrier, producing high head injury measures.

Rear passenger — The dummy's head was hit mainly by the window glass of the rear passenger door. The head was also hit by the window frame and the pillar behind the door. These impacts did not produce high head injury measures, but the head protection is inadequate.

  • Good to know that I'll die instantly if I come across a maniac who got his drivers license from a cereal box..

  • @cookie1749 I had an xA as well and mine had them. The only factory-installed option Toyota offers on the xA besides the automatic transmission is a safety package comprising front seat-mounted side airbags and front and rear seat side curtain airbags ($650). The xB didn't even get the option.

  • @Evilatem I have an Xa it doesnt have side airbags

  • I still can't figure out why the xA and tC had side curtain air bags and the xB doesn't.

I mean come on, it's got like 3 feet of head space to store the air bag deployment system.

  • Speed!!????

  • Ouch.

  • Okay, the designers of Toyota must have been fucking high when they designed this - box! The new one looks better, though.
