SinistralRifleman shooting his Saiga 12 shotgun. Of particular interest to me is his reloading technique shown in the video. Note that he's a lefty, so the technique would have to be modified a bit for you righties out there.

Here's what he does:

1: Removes mag with right hand
2: Pulls back action with right hand and uses right thumb to activate Bolt Hold Open device
3:Inserts fresh mag
4: Pulls back on handle and lets it go

In talking with him, I found out that he no longer uses this technique. Instead, he uses the standard Kalashnikov method of inserting the magazine on a closed bolt, then racking the action. While faster, it's harder to do with the shotgun and definitely requires practice.

  • what gas tube rail is that?

  • @Timb0NZ I think it's an Ultimak rail. Not sure though.

  • Hooah!! RLTW!! Sua Sponte!!

  • I suppose what some might consider a "tactical" reload is open to debate. On the range without anyone shooting back at you, it IS possible. I've seen it done quite a bit. As a former Army Ranger that's been in his share of firefights, I can tell you that I have never been able to keep count of rounds I've fired when being shot at. Nor has anyone I've ever witnessed been able to. Since I "train like I fight", I don't bother trying to count rounds. I'm not against it though.

  • If you look at videos by SinistralRifleman, you'll see the Saiga better. I belive it's got an Ultimak top rail with a red dot sight, an ACE style stock, and I'm not sure on the forend.

  • SAIGA POWER!

  • how is this defined as a tactical reload? This was merely shooting to empty and doing and emergency reload. A tactical reload is defined as "topping off" the weapon with a fresh mag, while saving the partially expended magazine for later use.

  • he's just using Sleight of hand pro

  • @HYBRIDCOMBATIVES

this is very true. what is being exhibited is a simple speed reload. the tactical variation differs in that the magazine is 'policed' and changed because the situation is low threat, and allows for a magazine change to a fully loaded magazine. this is not the case as shown in the video.

  • @ceressy Yeah or he could install a LRBHO i figure if i did that on mine i could reload in a lil under 3sec retaining mag of course.

  • you can do an even faster reload if you dont lock the charging handle back every time. just insert the new mag and then charge it. saves that extra few split seconds and if you doing 3 gun it counts. i know because i do it

  • @GIDAN2987 i would also have to agree, it seems like everyone i have ever met who's been in the military did something extrodinare or special. not once have i run into someone from supply, or the chow hall, or motor t, or artillery. just by reading that dudes reply's its obvious he hasnt spent a day across the wire. makes me sick

  • @IzzyShooter oh god not another one, bullshit flag is up!

  • One hippie didn't like your awesome shotgun skills.

  • You need slight of hand pro
