Dating racial preferences are racist?

if that's racist, then by the same logic considering someone's gender is sexist. i have lots of white and black friends, but i don't want to fuck them as much as i do the middle easterners for some reason. sorry if you think that's racist but i only drill for oil.

@jeois411 I'm glad I inspired you to think about it a bit. ^^ I would like to point out, though, that in the example I gave, I would not consider it racist for that person to 'prefer' dating black people by default, or to be significantly more likely to approach and pursue blacks - That's just them going after something that they find attractive. It's only when that pursuit causes them to immediately rule out anybody else regardless of *their* good qualities that I think it becomes unreasonable.

@jeois411 I see your point, and I thought about it,and in a way I think it is. Because if that is your only gage on who you date or not, then I think that is racist. If racial preference means you won't date anyone of another race then I think so. Because there are beautiful people in all races, and if you are only dating one race, maybe it might be because you have negative thoughts about other races. So Yeah I think I will have to change my answer. Racial preference is racist.

It's closed-minded and somewhat racist to refuse to date anyone who isn't of a specific ethnic stock.
However. It is reasonable and natural to be generally more attracted to members of one race than another because of traits natural to that race. For example, if you find the way dark skin looks in the sun particularly beautiful or sexy, it doesn't make you a bad person to be more interested relationships with blacks, any more than you would be a bad person for liking red hair.

@hellokitty7654321 haha, I don't know... seriously, how am I supposed to recall? It's not as if I recorded in a ledger "today: quarter oz." so I can remember years later. There could've been other stuff. Also, apparently I had the flu, and the audio is out of sync too.

wow how much weed did u smoke?? seriously...
The problem starts to arise when you are not open at all to any other form of beauty. That's when closed-mindedness starts to lead to unreasonable discrimination. If you think black skin is sexy, so be it - good for you. But if you think that because black skin is sexy you'd be wasting your time with anyone who isn't black, you're doing yourself and others a disservice. You'd miss out, for example, on a greek person with rippling muscles and a sweet smile, even if those are sexy too.

@SerpentStare ...gave this some more thought, but then realized people generally don't think about beauty. So, I now agree that it's not unreasonable to have these preferences; I'm sure I subconsciously have my own. Your examples of ruling out and/or looking for specific ethnic stocks is what was suggested as racist. Without getting into high-minded bullshit about perceived attractiveness and how it's too focused on particular physical traits, I honestly don't know--why I asked.

I don't think it's racist. I just think...it's more of a cultural thing. Who are you more confortable around? Who relates to you more? I know some black women who date white guys, because that's all they grew up around and that's who their comfortable with. So I don't think it's racist, unless you say I only date them because ....(fill in the blank). Because not everyone in that race is going to fit that cultural standard.

@buraburayoshi I doubt we should just chuck it up to "culture." Cultural relativism, imo, doesn't make much sense. I mean, it was part of many cultures to be inherently racist. In some cultures, it was the norm to go hunt down others and sacrifice them. The nuance you're making between race and culture is noted, but often it is used as an excuse to do senseless things only to perpetuate conventions.
