Congresswoman Gwen Moore (D-Wisc.) recognized the 15th anniversary of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) by speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives about the importance of the historic legislation, which created a safe haven for families affected by domestic violence. Because of the provisions included in VAWA, domestic violence victims have been able to access services and counseling during their darkest hours, emergency and transitional shelters in times of need, and legal assistance to prosecute perpetrators. Yesterday evening, the House of Representatives also passed a resolution recognizing the 15th anniversary of VAWA.
