THIS IS A VIDEO THAT I WROTE TO FIGURE OUT HOW MANY RPMs THE WIND TURBINE WILL SPIN FREELY WITH NO LOAD ON IT IN THE GIVEN WIND CONDITIONS IN A CERTAIN AREA. THAT WAY I WOULD KNOW WHAT VOLTAGES TO EXPECT IN THE AVERAGE WINDS OF THAT AREA. AND IF THE WINDS ARE LOWER FOR THAT AREA I COULD EITHER SHORTEN THE PROP FOR A LITTLE MORE RPMs. OR I COULD JUST ADD MORE MAGNETS, OR REWIRE THE OUTPUTS. ONE OTHER ADVANTAGE TO THIS PROGRAM IS IF I KNOW THE EVERY DAY AVERAGE WIND SPEED , I CAN DESIGN THE ALTERNATOR TO GIVE ME A DESIRED OUTPUT. TOGETHER WITH THE OTHER PROGRAM THAT IS PART 2, I CAN FIGURE OUT THE EXPECTED POWER OUT AND DETERMINE THE PROP SIZE AND THE RPMS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE, AND THE DESIRED WIRE SIZE. ALL THESE FACTORS ARE VERY IMPORTANT IN THE DESIGN OF A WIND TURBINE FOR YOUR AREA. THIS IS A GIFT TO YOU MY VIEWERS AND I HOPE YOU FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET THE MOST OUT OF IT. I WILL PROBABLY OFFER THE FULL 2 PROGRAMS TO DOWN LOAD IF I CAN FIND A SITE TO PLACE THEM AT. THESE PROGRAMS ARE IN GWBASIC LANGUAGE. THERE IS A SITE CALLED FRIENDLYRAT.COM WHERE YOU CAN DOWN LOAD THE BASIC COMPILER TO RUN THESE PROGRAMS. SORRY I LEARNED TO PROGRAM WHEN I WAS GOING THROUGH ROBOTICS AT TEXAS STATE TECHNICAL INSTITUTE IN SWEETWATER/ROSCOE CAMPUS, A DIVISION OF A&M. THIS WAS WAY BACK IN 1982 OR 83. HELLO COMMODORE 64 AND TRS 80s AND TI 99s THE CUTTING EDGE OF TECHNOLOGY FOR THE 80s , AND HELLO BASIC PROGRAMMING. THAT WAS WHEN 64 MEGABITES WAS REALLY COOL. BUT THE BEST THING IS THAT BASIC DOESNT TAKE UP HARDLY ANY MEMORY AT ALL. YOU COULD HAVE TEN THOUSAND PROGRAMS AND STILL HAVE ONLY 1 GIG OR MUCH LESS. AND IT WILL FIT ON A SINGLE FLOPPY ALONG WITH THE COMPILER.
IMAGINE THAT!!!! WWWWEEEEEE. THE NEXT BEST PART TO THAT IS IT RUNS AT LIGHTNING SPEED ON TODAYS COMPUTER. BY THE WAY THE SPACE SHUTTLE IS RUN ON A COMMODORE 64 MICROPROCESSOR CHIP WITH BASIC PROGRAMMING. WWWOOOOWWWW I FEEL LIKE BEN STEIN AND AS OLD TOO.

TOO SIMPLE BUT SELF EXPLANITORY. THE SPEED OF THE TIPS OF YOUR BLADES. IT BASICALLY ASKS FOR THE WIND SPEED, AND TIPS SPEED RATION AND MULTIPLIES IT FOR YOU.

THIS IS A PROGRAM THAT HELPS YOU FIGURE OUT HOW MANY HENRYS OR MILIHENRYS THE INDUCTION OF A COIL WILL BE WITH YOU GIVEN PERAMETERS.

EXPECTED POWER OUT THAT YOU GET WITH A CERTAIN SIZED PROP AND THE GIVEN WIND SPEED.

ALL OF THESE PROGRAMS ARE IN BASIC. THUS THEY NEED A SUFFIX OF .BAS. CAPS LOCK SHOULD BE ON IN THESE PROGRAMS. AND TO END A BASIC PROGRAM JUST PRESS CONTROL AND C TO END THE PROGRAM. THEN TYPE THE WORD "SYSTEM" AND HIT ENTER TO EXIT BASIC AND RETURN TO WINDOWS.
YOU WILL NEED A BASIC COMPILER TO RUN THESE PROGRAMS. YOU CAN GET IT AT KINDLYRAT.COM FOR FREE.
AFTER DOWNLOADING ALL THE PROGRAMS AND THE BASIC COMPILER, JUST DRAG THE PROGRAMS ONTO THE COMPILER AND THEN THEY WILL RUN IN BASIC68 OR GWBASIC. BASIC IS A PROGRAMMING LANGUAGE. THE COMPILER IS THE PROGRAM THAT RUNS BASIC PROGRAMS. I SAID THAT JUST SO YOU KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON. THESE PROGRAMS ARE SO SMALL AND SIMPLE THAT THEY WILL RUN LIGHTNING FAST, AND WITH NO PROBLEMS. BASIC USED TO BE THE LANGUAGE THEY USED IN THE FIRST VERY SLOW COMPUTERS FOR PUBLIC USE. WHEN YOU ENTER IN THE INFORMATION TO BE CALCULATED, THE COMPUTER HAS DON THE WORK IN PICO SECONDS. THAT'S FAST. NO COMPUTER IS TOO SLOW TO RUN THESE.

  • @Theskidmark61 THANK YOU FOR MAKING USE OF IT. THIS VIDEO HAS A LOT LESS VIEWS THAN I FIGURED IT SHOULD. IT IS A MUST HAVE CALCULATION IN ANY WIND TURBINE DESIGNERS HANDS.

    HOPE YOU GET IT RUNNING OR JUST USE THE ON SCREEN EXAMPLES WITH A LITTLE MORE MATH TO GET THE CALCULATIONS YOU NEED.

    TOGETHER WITH THE OTHER PROGRAM , A LOT CAN BE PLANED OUT.

  • Also how feasible is it to generate 240V at 1.6 amps, 400w, using wind?

    This is what greenhouses use per light and it isnt to far from what a street light uses, thats energy we should definitely recover from the environment.

  • If you are in a country where they use 240 volts as a househould voltage, then the ceiling fans there will do around 240 and about half the rating of the rated output. Go for it Mr Santos, Im chearing and i will be glad to see another one up in the air.

  • Im really interested in how this program would be different for a vertical axis wind turbine? Would it be much harder to write the program and which variables would change the most?

    Also want to say that i found your page through greenpowerscience and its nice to see that you've uploaded videos this week because greenpowerscience was inactive for about a year.

    Im sure when you have time it will be loads of fun experimenting with VAWTS.

  • very good comment Mr. Santos,

    Vawts are to big to get the same power out. and they have to be geared up in most cases because of thier low rotational speed. they are great for low winds and lower speed wind though. but there is little power in the slower winds. Vawts are mostly drag machines and dont get much faster than the wind. for the program to do vawts there are many variables like angles and frictional gearing losses. Check out Ed Lenz, He has the most impressive Vawts ive seen.

  • Point well taken. 45mph is a good furling speed. Some of those cheap turbine furl too soon after they start to make power. Try some carbons mudd. You'll like em.
