Saw this at ADFF. Brilliant documentary, fast-paced, well directed & edited, strong central characters that you can both empathize and identify with. I disagree with some of the comments here, it bravely addresses the inherent duality in both contexts. Beauty contests objectify women, but they also give a platform for empowerment. Hindu nationalist camps concentrate on higher ideals of mental and spiritual strength, but they also preach hatred and submission to antiquated patriarchal traditions.

Heart wrenching, but, this isn't the whole of india, it isn't even representative of Mumbai where a lot of it was filmed, this movie is two sides of a coin, two extremes, nothing in between. Gender equality is better in the south than in the north, but as a whole it can improve.

Hindus were always the most grounded and balanced lot on this planet. But that is fast changing, the 'western' culture is plaguing the deep spiritual values of India, and taking it on a nose-dive into blatant materalism, drugs, alcohol and consumerism. It might be a learning experience through hell for these deluded young girls and guys, so in that it is ok. Though India needs to maintain its light of ancient wisdom and applications for the good of the entire world.
