  • In France , too , Richter was supposed to be upon Gilels ; may be it was because of the man : Emil Gilels seemed to be humble , not a star .

Though both pianists were sovietics , they came not from same social origin.

In a way , that can explain what Gilels expresses when he is playing .

May be he had more understanding for social being and he turned that deep feeling into music .

  • @jeanpi314159 -

Humble? yes, he was. But he was bold enough to apply for his repressed teacher.

  • Better than richter IMHO!

Gilels fallowed all dynamics accurately and sound.

    Richter only showed his technique...

  • Very essential remark. - Thank You.

  • ¡¡¡Si Beethoven hubiera sido su contemporáneo,lo besaría en la frente!!!-BRAVO POR SIEMPRE MAESTRO EMIL GILELS!!!

  • Not only Beethoven - God kissed him.

  • impressive!!! I don't think i'm even half as good ><

  • there were and will be many piano players and each impertinent things on hos or her way...they not GODS .but. there is only one "GOD" that his Music we carry with us anywhere and everywhere and wherever and whatever we do at all times and places.... and all others are clergy s ....

  • Comparing Gilels to Richter is a fool's errand, both are extraordinary.

But the fact is Gilels was a surreal musician and artist from when he was young until we lost him.

Gilels is the one disciple of Rachmaninoff in pianism, as Rach personally acknowledged that Gilels alone was worthy of being called his successor. Further, Rach gave the medal and diploma he was given as the chosen successor to Anton Rubinstein to Gilels, and added Gilels' name to the document. That means everything :-))

  • to me he was the best.

    "Emil GILELS plays BEETHOVEN"

  • Pour moi, Gilels est tout à fait parmi les meilleurs pour Beethoven

  • @lastnaturemistake Utterly ridiculous of you to deal with Richter with such a throwaway remark. Gilels and Richter were both gods.

  • @EvaHartwig

yes indeed ,I read on a site dedicated to Emil Gilels how he was bold ( till he succeeded ) to apply for Heinrich Neuhaus during WWII ( when every citizen of german ascendance was suspected to be a traitor , I believe) . Of course , Emil Gilels has never been timid as far as justice is concerned .
