But Davis preferred the 'Country' format over Pop, and it showed late in 1974, when Davis released a very special Country song that many never knew, but one that was never forgotten by many of us who was there and first heard "Ride 'Em Cowboy." The former Country/Pop crossover hit will be regarded by many of us as...
"Country's Greatest Song Of All Time!"

"Just give me a Cowboy hat, some faded blue jeans, and an old Country juke box with "Ride 'Em Cowboy" on it, and I'll be set for life!" Paul Davis was best known in the Pop Music World for hits like, I Go Crazy, Sweet Life, and '65 Love Affair.

This is from 1974, not 1973. And I recently heard this song on the December 14, 1974 AT40 episode rebroadcast on AT40: The 70's.

It's sad that he passed on, and hopefully his albums he put out on the Bang and Arista labels will be reissued on CD (the whole catalog is now owned by Sony/BMG by the way).
