When rebellious Utah socialite Kirsten Young is found murdered in Provo Canyon with strange markings carved into her flesh and a note written in a 19th Century code, questions arise about the old laws of the Mormon Church. Journalist Selonnah Zee is assigned the story—which quickly takes on a life of its own. Even before the first murder is solved several more victims appear, each one more mysterious than the last.

Adding to a slew of other distractions, Selonnahs cousin, Roger, has recently converted and is now a public spokesperson for the Mormon faith. But paradoxically, Roger's wife Eliza is struggling to hold onto the Mormon beliefs of her childhood. If something is really from God, she wonders, why does it need to be constantly revised? And could the murderer be asking the same questions?

  • I just missed buying a 16mm film off ebay called "The Cipher" where a boy dies on the snow and it's a message for us. But I didnt get it. Also, if you are going to live 19th C Mormonism you need Sex in the Endowment ceremony

  • I didn't know that about sex in the endowment ceremony... it's not in this book at least, but that's not to say the killer doesn't believe it. Just no occasion to mention it I guess. Post again after you read the book! I'd love to hear what you think too. (can you tell I'm a fan?!) haha

  • It's a wonder LDS Inc. hasn't set a busload of their Lawyers onto this & had it pulled from the shelves...

  • Oh, I don't doubt they'll do what they do with "The Mormon Mirage" and make sure it's always checked out of every library and no one can ever read it to the best of their ability.

But the thing is this is a great book, period. There are prominent, well known atheists, Christians, and yes, even Mormons who are giving it amazing reviews. Once you read it make sure and comment again about how much you love it!
