The reason is simple: People, cry out for a connection to the divine feminine, which so many branches of Christianity lack. So many promote God as male and by proxy, that male is somehow superior to female, when in reality both are equal. It is not surprising that Catholics often lean towards Mary,I don't blame them, she is the only female religious figure Christianity is given! It is the result of the divine feminine being ignored by Chirstianity! If God is All, then God is both male and female

@7nd1 I was referring more to the original scriptures, wherein the word for God was both a masculine and feminine word, highlighting both those aspects within the creator.

If we're talking roots, then shouldn't we also raise the point of the Christ saviour figure being drawn from many religions that pre-date the era of Jesus? In that respect, some might say that Christianity itself is no more than the worship of a fallible human, wrapped in the trimmings of older cultures' images of deity.

@smokeybirdman. We do not go thru Mary to get to Jesus. The Holy Spirit is our comforter, He helps us pray, not Mary. You are putting Mary above Jesus. This is idolatry. The Ark of the Covenant is Jesus. He bore our sins in His body on the cross. What would happen if catholics refused to go to Mary in order to get to Jesus? Jesus said to come unto Him, He never said go to Mary and she will come to Me for you.
