@phalluses I have a lot of experience with both, having been an FCP user for a long time.

Final Cut was made with professionals in mind. Vegas is designed for enthusiasts, and now professionals. It has lots of neat features that are missing in FCP. They work differently in their basic function, so getting used to one means the other might feel strange at first.

Vegas has the advantage of being infinitely cheaper since you can buy a PC, not a Mac.
