This isn't just a response to FaChin0420's video... it's going to be a start of a series of videos I plan on doing (not all in a row, don't worry) on myths and misconceptions about martial arts. It's something that I've been thinking about for a while now, and considering that I've been putting my thoughts on YouTube about other things, might as well throw out my thoughts on martial arts as well.

This particular one focuses on a line FaChin says about training in the backyard instead of going to a class. Believe it or not, it's not as stupid as it may sound. Why? watch the video. :P

By the way, the point I was supposed to make when I said that martial arts are no longer essential, was that it's easier to make up crap about it since it's not held up to the same scrutiny that it has been in the past. With guns, you know if a particular model is good or not... people use them all the time in combat. With martial arts, since it's not as widespread, people believe in all sorts of crap about it, because there is less chance to disprove the BS. Yes, there are still people who can, but it takes a lot longer for their information to clear things up.

Ok, enough of that... back to playing Diablo.

Comments are welcome of course, especially from other martial artists.

  • how are you playing diablo when u know diablo 3 is coming out..... i cant allow myself to do such things it teases my mind. diablo 3 will be the end of my life u should blog about your opinionon that

  • It's because Diablo 3 is coming out that I'm playing it... well that, and the fact that I've always liked playing this game. I can't wait for the latest one to come out either, though I hope they put in a decent mage class similar to the one in the first game.

  • Aw man, I started in boxing! Why'd ya have to cut me down like that? :'(

  • Cut ya down?? I think Boxing is one of the best fighting forms out there! I was just saying that for those people tying to learn how to fight, it's probably better going to a boxing gym than to a martial arts school: you'll pay less money, you'll get practical fighting techniques and experience, and you most likely won't be bullshitted while talking it. People learning martial arts have to face high prices, the chance that the skills taught aren't practical, and loads of BS about the style.

  • Then we took some Capoeira for a bit, I wrestled in high school and then competed in tough man competitions. I then created my own practice. Jose and I first called it "Mezcla" whichis spanish for mix, the I called it CapThaiKido, now I call it KappaGuerra. Great video, 5 stars!

  • The 3rd tier type of backyard fighting you discuss is pretty much exactly how I developed my martial arts. I started with a friend Jose in his backyard with some basics that we took from Bruce Lee books. We play fought and learned from trial and error.

  • I train in the Backyard XD and on the street..I jog for a couple of miles, then do about 50 high kicks.. 50 axe kicks, 1000 arm circles, 30 pushups, 8 pullups, 20 roman chairs, and then finish with 30 of those pull thingies on the machine :D:D 4 days a week.

  • Hey Man... Well stated. I totally agree. Martial Artist as well, Kenpo & Krav Maga.

I also have a degree in music. The exact same thing applies... Learn the rules before you can break them so to speak. That's what I used to tell my music students.

I had 2 students that got to a level where they were "On" their own, they just didn't know it.

    You Rock...

  • Hey man that guy you were talkin about is my brother and i gotta say thank you he has been goin at it for like 25 years or so and he does now his shit and to hear someone else as experienced as you to explain certain things to people that like to stay closed minded

  • did it really take 11 minutes to read to the address part? i said ... "begging my address ... you never included your own in those messages tough guy" simply indicating that while i dont require your address to prove such a petty squabble... you cant really claim to be so bold as to provide your own address before begging mine, that was all i was saying...
