In October of 2008, Room to Read's Founder, John Wood, 2 staff members and 8 supporters traveled to Southern Africa for a 10 day "trek". We spent a few days in Zambia where Room to Read had begun operations earlier that year. After traveling for three hours by road east of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, we arrived at Lukwipa Boarding Basic School. Room to Read Zambia supports two programs at the school, the libraries program (Reading Room) and the Girls' Education Program. When our bus arrived we were greeted by the school's award winning chorus which sang many songs in celebration of our visit. This song is for John Wood. The chorus/refain says, "We called the US for help and John Wood picked up the phone. Hello, Hello" What an amazing and inspiring visit!
