UNICEF is working with the government in Cote d'Ivoire to promote birth registration. A birth certificate is not only the first legal recognition of the existence of a child, but it is also the entry point to other rights and to social services, such as immunization, school enrolment, protection from early marriage, from enrolment in armed groups. It is also the key to the right to a nationality and to the respect of the minimum legal age for child labor and protection in case of conflict with the law.
