Frank Wakefield wrote "New Camptown Races" back in 1953 when he was nineteen years old. Kings Highway (Mark Hargis on mandolin, Josh Johnston on guitar, Mike Fulkerson on banjo, Kevin Bowlds on fiddle and Byron Oost on bass) and Frank Wakefield performing on October 5, 2008 at the Jerusalem Ridge Bluegrass Festival held at the Monroe Family home place in Rosine, Kentucky.
Frank, When I was 13 years old, Norm (Rat) Selberg and I sold tickets for you door to door, to sponser you to come up here, (to show Yankees how Bluegrass is really played) The money we raised from that show allowed us to start the RRBA (I became a banjo picker because of the interest we generated) It was at the Regency Inn, in East Grand Forks, MN in about 1984- you were coming back from the Winnipeg Folk Festival. It was an evening I will never forget! Glad u still are wowing the crowds!
