PLEASE NOTE: I have created and uploaded an improved version of this video. My playing and tuning is much better, and I demonstrate some other effects that can be achieved. This video is only here for comparison purposes!
New one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVCe5IguS-E

A demonstration of a Parallel organum tuning on a Chris Allen symphonie. My two chanterelles are tunes to G and the D below it, to give a medieval organum of the 4th, with a rather unusual sound. This tuning is far too underused in the gurdy world overall, as, when well tuned, it produces some lovely sounds.

  • "beijing's different nights" hahahahahahahaha

  • @Nuxunumo Yep ;) I pity people who speak other languages trying to figure out what people in videos are saying from these subtitles!

  • For anyone who want's a bit of a laugh... Opt in for the HTML5 Beta, and view this video with speech to text captions on. Apparently "The russians are other issues" :)

  • Just checked my information - there are examples of Organum dating as far back as the 9th Century! Well before the first records of gurdies. So organum may have been used from the start.

  • @WaterpigMaster

and apparently "Basically, it's a midieval tuning.." translates to "I think they are watching.."

  • Very cool!

  • Fantastic! I've very much enjoyed your videos about the symphony, useful and informative as I'm currently deciding whether to buy or make one. I like the parallel organum tuning, I've heard it before on some German Mittelalter Rock band CDs.

Thanks, and keep up the good work!
