  • I wouldn't call it right out plagiarization, but borderlining it absolutely. But any musician will want their work to be heard and appreciated, and MGS brought the theme song out to the people, and people who want to do a little bit of research will find this composition, and they might not have found it if not for mgs. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have.

  • Partly 'copied' or not, I consider 'The Snow Storm' as a master work, written by one of the greatest composers of the 20th century!

I just love this music and can listen to it, again and again!

    Cordially,

    Geert Dehoux, pianist.

  • Shortly before the release of Portable Ops, someone on the internet discovered a song by classical Russian composer Georgy Vasilevich Sviridov, named "The Winter Road." The Metal Gear community was in an uproar at how similar the song was to the "Metal Gear Solid Main Theme", and requested the song be shown to Hideo Kojima. Eventually, a

  • YouTube video emerged of a group of people showing the song to Kojima, who gave a very surprised reaction.[1] Eventually in an issue of the video game magazine EGM it was revealed via an interview with Norihiko Hibino that the theme was indeed changed due to the fact that "Konami had legal problems with Russian composers who said [they] stole their music."[2]

  • @schoolispiss I'm not sure I agree with you. They were certainly heavily inspired by it, but it's not an exact copy. They took the signature theme from The Snowstorm and re-recorded it with a tempo and a soundscape that would fit MGS. So if the music crew behind MGS plagiarized Sviridov, then I might say Robocop plagiarizes the new testament. It's certainly inspired by the story of Jesus, but translated into a futuristic, dystopic setting while retaining large portions of the theme

  • @Lleanlleawrg ... all in all... they plagiarized it

  • @Lleanlleawrg I still like Hideo Kojima's rendition more. :3

  • @neza1138 Why do you think Hideo is in the wrong? If anyone is in the wrong, it's Tappy Iwase, the writer of the Metal Gear Solid theme. Hideo didn't contribute to the theme AT ALL. I don't usually insult people over the Internet, but you are really fricking ignorant and stupid.

  • Sviridov: over 9000

    Kojima: -1

  • @atomicfirehead Well Duke is basically every 80s action hero rolled into one, so yes he's nearly identical to Ash as they had the same concept. Appearance and voice do not make them the same character. Yes, Snake is heavily based on Snake Plissken, but the part that matters, the part that makes a character who he is, his PERSONALITY, is different. And Roy Campbell wasn't who was in discussion, but yes he basically IS Colonel Trautman, that I will freely acknowledge.

  • @lawrence4566 No, that's what's called a "Jimmy Hart Version", and yes it is pretty much a ripoff.
