The original theme song and intro as sung by the first 3 hosts Benita Ha, Jonathan Torrens and Jamie Bradley ."Street Cents" has basically become an institution on the Canadian-taxpayer funded CBC. Beginning in 1989 it's probably had over 20 hosts.

  • I wrote that "lame song" many years ago. It was originally written for a dream sequence skit, not as the theme. The lyrics were quite different, and did not include rhyming "Street Cents". That was a request sent in by the producers as we were recording it. By the way, it was recorded in the same studio in Halifax as Sloan's first album - Smeared I think.

If we had known it was going to be used more than once, we may have taken it a bit more seriously.

    "Take the roylaties and run!"

  • I think Jonathan Torrens should be named Canadian of the Year. From Street Cents, to Jonovision, to Trailer Park Boys, he has been part of Canadian pop culture for almost 20 years.

  • Our world governments need some "Street Cents"

  • @DiddlePickle

yeah and J-Roc should accept it on his behalf, nah-mean

  • CLASSIC THEME SONG AND SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My God, I haven't heard this in 20 years. I loved this theme song! Street Cents was a great concept for a kids' TV show.

  • Benita is in the new BMO commerical

  • I wish they'd bring this show back. We've needed it since the recession hit.

  • This show helped me so much about how to be a "Smart Consumer" growing up as an older kid going into through my teen years, with how to find out which products are good or "Fit for the Pit!" Those were the best days and such a great learning experience.

  • @lesliekwan80 I actually kinda had a thing for Anna Dirkson, she was such a babe watching back then in those days!

  • I had a crush on benita ha.

  • I agree about Demore and Andrew Bush, they were pretty funny and talented - though the show just didn't have that captivating image anymore after the peak years.
