I will admit this 30 deg trick does work on budget performance/ low rpm engines with stock or mild performance heads. The reason it is done is because of the budget though. Better results can be acheived other ways. I wouldn't put a 30 degree seat in a well designed racing head. If you have a head with a better port design it would actually hurt performance to use a 30 deg rather than a 55 deg.
I've read almost all of David Vizard's books. We can get that out of the way right now. David Vizard is a very smart man, but, there are people who build better engines. I know where you are coming from with the whole curtain area and low lift flow thing. The only problem is that the people with cars in "National Dragster" have enough money to buy whatever works. I guarantee that they have knowledge of the 30 deg seat deal. They don't use it because it doesn't work.
I think Jeg Coughlin, John Force, Connie Kalitta etc. are some pretty smart guys. They have some of the fastest cars in the world. For you to say they are dumb is just plain silly.
I'm not sure that statement is true, sir. If it is at all true I suspect the folks over at "National Dragster" could stand to watch a little less 'Larry The Cable Guy' and listen to a lot more David Vizard.
more flow more power,in this case depended what we need from the engine,if it is n/a or turbo.we need torgue or power and in what range rpm?everthing depends from the engine type an who it works.
Don't like the 30 deg deal in most cases. Most street stuff uses sub par heads that go turbulent too fast anyway. In my experience a 30 just makes the head go turbulent faster. If you use a 45 you can get more air. I think I'd substitute a venturi into seat blend job over a seat angle change. The only build I'd use a 30 on would be a mild "daily driver" type build.

The topic of discussion is valve seat angles. If you have any more thoughts to add that are on topic, I'd love to discuss them further.

@TheTuber124 Speaking of "doesn't work" I find it curious that you both double-blasted me (that always looks bad) and deleted SIX additional posts.

@zapwatt
I don't see a whole lot of folks using 30 degree seats in National Dragster.

If i was going to go for bottom end power, id just build a bigger engine.
