Victory Over Violence 5K

For the past four years, the Cameron County District Attorneys Sword and Shield has hosted an annual 5K Run/Walk. All proceeds from this event will benefit two local Cameron County family violence shelters, The Family Crisis Center and The Friendship of Women. On April 17, 2010, the D.A.s Sword and Shield will host its 4th Annual Victory over Violence 5K Run/Walk from 8 a.m. to noon at Linear Park, located in front of the Federal Courthouse, in Brownsville. The Victory over Violence 5K Run/Walk is a 3.1 mile march to show support, so all are invited to bring bikes, pets, or baby strollers and join us on the route. Last year the event took place on South Padre Island, Texas, and had over 60 participants. Lets beat last years goal and commit ourselves in raising awareness for victims of domestic violence.

The District Attorney's Sword and Shield is a non-profit organization for the Cameron County and District Attorney's Office. The Sword and Shields objective is to assist worthy organizations and causes in the community.

The organization is formed with volunteers from the office; moreover, no public funds are utililized in the management of this group.

We have chosen the sword and shield to symbolize our purpose as an office. The shield is used to protect the victims and citizens of our community and the sword is used to cut down and fight the never ending battle against crime and evil.
