On 24th December it's been a year since I started this page. Honestly I would have never guessed that (a little more than) 365 days after I would have posted my 11th cover. So here it is. And it's also the second Beatles related song. Sorry Mick, I promise I'll do a Stones tune soon. Anyway...George Harrison has always been my favourite Beatle, I can easyly mirror myself in his gentle shyness. But John had a special gift, something that came before (and was the reason for) his immense talent as a song writer and performer. He was still in touch with the child he used to be. This means that he was able to approach the trials of human condition with disarming sincerity, using words and images that anyone could imediately understand and relate to. Call it The Little Prince naivety, whatever. This does not change the fact that he had the power to make you believe in what he was singing about, because he was the first to belive in it. As a proof of his tremendous talent he discarded this song and never finished it. The reaming work was later done by the "fab three" and we will never know how John would have dressed his final version. I've always loved the strange chords and the lyrics. The idea that all we really do (or should do) in this life is waitng for love to happen do appeals to me. It's just like sitting on the riverside pretending to be deeply interested in the course of the flood when you're just longing for the ship to come. You don't want to show what you're actually doing, that's it. Privacy of the heart. I can't imagine something more touching than confessing to someone"all I really was doing was waiting for you". Oh and I did tell it...once...Still I really wonder what am I doing here by the shore. So this helped me going with the flow of the words to imagine (what an appropriate verbe) a ball room and a brass dance band instead of a river...I guess Paul would appreciate this strange, stompling, indie version of a 1930s arrangement more than John...Sorry I was too busy waiting for love...Hope you all find it in 2012 and recognise it in time, before the ship leaves you sight...Take care...
