Watch for the climb back down. The bricks of the wall at my old apartment building were quite coarse, which made it easy for the squirrels to climb up to my 6th floor balcony to get the peanuts I was feeding them. Some people might ask "why would you want those filthy beasts on your balcony?". Not only did they refrain from pooping in the kitchen where they received the free peanuts, but those annoying pigeons stopped showing up once the squirrels started hanging around. The only time the squirrels bothered me occured when one of them carried 4 baby squirrels up there and built a nest in my now chewed-up barbecue cover for them to live in, which probably wouldn't have happened if I had put it on the barbecue instead of leaving it crumpled up on the floor. I removed the cover and left the babies in a box at ground level which invoked a very loud verbal reaction from the mother- she still came by for peanuts though, and after a while the surviving babies joined her.
