I'm also reminded of Sam Langford. He wasn't a big guy -- about 5 feet 7 and around 158-168 pounds -- yet he knocked out many much bigger boxers in the early decades of the 20th century. , Despite assurances to Langford, the great heavyweight Jack Johnson managed to keep Sam from a title shot. Reporters often asked Langford about his punching power. His usual reply: " I've told you before. Ain't no secret. It's in the hips" --
At 1:35, Demura suggests just a little of the power that the hips can generate. Just imagine his MAXIMUM power:). I'm reminded of major league baseball in 1939, when Ted Williams -- 6 feet 3 inches and (then) about 145 pounds -- hit 31 home runs. Teammates and opponents alike were baffled by Williams' power. In "The Science of Hitting," Williams revealed his power source: hip rotation. These examples demonstrate that using the hips correctly can unleash tremendous power --
Shihan Demura's 38th Annual Karate-Do Championships including Kobudo(weapons) & Batto-Do(sword) competitions will be held Feb. 21 & 22, 2009 @ Costa Mesa HighSchool Gym, 2650 Fairview Rd., Costa Mesa, CA. See my profile page for more info.

actually, he originated from Itotsu kai, but he left the Japanese karate federation a while ago, made his own style, genbu kai.
That's why in some other older vids he has a red symbol on his gi, and in this one, he doesn't.
I know cause I stil train shinto ryu, I didn't go with his school...but my brother did.
Almost no difference in style, except mines still associated with JKF, where his is no longer.
