  • an amp meter need positive pressure to move the pointer up so you must have a Australian meter.

  • my vid may be in error

my 10amp was fine without a shunt as it was low power but my 50amp needed the shunt to protect the meter from being cooked.

if you can look inside see how thick or thin the wires are if they are thin then i would use a shunt as they are only ment to measure a small current.

  • no they dont

yes you can leave it connected permanently , it wont drain your battery

if you connect it up correctly it will have next to nothing effect

  • In a week or two I will be remounting the solar tracker on a 100mm concrete filled pole.

a complete redesign to allow for wind speed.

  • Thanks.it,real

  • my amp meter shunt specifically calls for the negative to run thru it

  • Hi, Good video, I got 2 amp meters, 1 x 30 A, & 1 x 50 A, I am only drawing 7 to 10 amps off the power supply for my hho unit, The 30 amp meter works fine ( No Shunt) But the 50 Amp wont work, the guy said it requires a shunt to work, BUT, I notice you said that low draw of amps they should both still work minus the shunt, If so He sold me 1 dead meter , can you confirm they should both work on low draw of power please when you get time..... really useful video guy... thanks.

    Thom in Scotland.

  • THANKS

  • do these use power? could i leave the meter on? or will it drain my battery?

or will it use up all the power from the solar panel and not charge my battery?

  • Good explanation of ammeter and shunt functions!

Now I can install my HHO dry cell generator in my vehicle!

    Thanks!

  • the shunt actually diverts the current away from the meter to protect it
