  • @JEMdev Most win comment on YouTube today ;) xXx

  • @JEMdev please post a link to this quad-core Xeon workstation for $500 that you're talking about.

  • did this thing have a dedicated DSP for video?? how are the graphics so cool even back in thosedays!

  • @TheZapzupNZ OSX is ugly hand-holdy shit though. Mac specs are generally shit too. Most people don't understand it, but the stock macbooks are severely outdated now, and if you really want anything that's still competitive with other manufacturers, you have to get a Mac Pro desktop. Those start at around $2,500. Similar spec computers from other manufacturers? $400-$500.

  • @JEMdev Bit harsh, isn't it? I mean, all of that functionality and more is still present in Mac OS X with a few exceptions which were replaced with other features.

And of course, with the exception of Carbon applications which don't get the new features anymore either.

  • Back when Steve cared more about function than Gaudy GUI. IMHO, this is the cleanest looking OS he ever worked on.

Also, why it never took off? $17,000 retail for a NeXTCUBE at release.

  • I liked when he said, "You click on it, and BLAMMO, you're there."

You don't hear Steve saying that today.

  • wow,a lot of the features demoed in the video are like the standards of modern os, things we take for granted...

  • @wysoft NeXT lives on as OS X - I too am surprised it hasn't "completely taken over the computing word", but as we all know, price is a factor.

  • Hmm... Steve Jobs speaking about something that's better than a mac? That's what I'm not familiar with.
