The foreign ministers of five nations with Arctic coastlines have met in Canada to discuss their claims to the area, which analysts say is rich in oil and gas deposits.

And the countries bordering the region, including Russia, the US, Canada, Denmark and Norway, are all laying claim to a slice of what could prove to be a very lucrative pie.

But the meeting has also drawn criticism from one of the participant, Hillary Clinton, the US secretary of state.

In a rare public US rebuke of Canada, she said the hosts did not invite three key nations and indigenous people with valid interests in the polar region.

Al Jazeera's Steve Chao reports from Canada's Resolute Bay.
