  • I will never forgive Lynchburg for destroying the magnificent, brick-paved Williams Viaduct!

  • I remember a lot of that area from that time, the last time I went home (Elon) over the Viaduct, 86?, the floodwaters in 85, also there was a shot of the Lukens Warehouse, another blast from the past, I went to a few parties there in high school before it burned. Skating around with my buds and drinking 40s and fishing where the WV remains are. Ahh memories! Good ones too! Greets from the Czech Republic, 4,477.96 miles away!

  • I was right there that day.

  • wow this was exactly one month after i was born

  • It has all been revitalized now. It is an historic district. The bridge is no longer there. It was the Williams Viaduct. I rode over that bridge about 10 minutes before they closed it due to the flooding on that very day. There was a lot of manufacturing plants there then. With Glay Morgan pipe factory being there then. Lower Basin Foundry is gone now too.

  • looks all delapitaited and old.very depressing.

  • that bridge is pretty high so that was a lot f rain

  • I knew one of the last two guys out of griffin when that happened.

  • Wow just came across this...I was 15 then and my bus stop was under water on Mt Athos...thanks for sharing and letting me turn back time:)

  • I lived in Roanoke back then. We didn't have power for about a week. The flood of 85 tor up Roanoke. I have a video tape from ch7 with their documentary of the flood. The tape is 20 years old now and still plays fine.
