@JinxHexhazard Indeed, you're right. And I must also add that the Hatter from Tim Burton's version's hair color made reference to one of the symptoms of mercury poisoning.

Did you guys know the Mad Hatter is a psychopath? Imagine him stabbing people and playing with their bodies. Yup I/m serious look it up.
-
@JinxHexhazard That's what the Mad Hatter is based off of.
-
@mdalsted It's a reference to a NPC in Manhunt; a psychopath who is constantly screaming that, and I said it because you kill him and his fellow psychotic lackeys in an asylum.
-
@FlippyKrueger O_O ...Huh!? What in the heck does THAT mean?
-
lol i killed the hatter with 5 throws of jacks
-
I'm gonna assume one of those robot things is the thing I saw in madness returns when you defeat your first set of madcaps
-
is it just me or are the Jacks like the most broken weapon in this game XD
I'm not sure, but I think it's the alchemical symbol for mercury. This is probably a reference to back in Victorian times when people who made hats ended up inhaling mercury fumes (from curing the felt to make hats). Many hatters would become mentally ill.

I love the death animation.
And by love, I mean fear horribly.
