  • i read somewhere that dented cans release poision into the food and that also happens over time with canned food - is this true and i suppose if it does the cycling of cans would take care of that

  • @caval73

Dents are a problem because they can cause tiny breaks in the airtight seal, where bacteria and oxygen can get it and ruin the food.

as far as 'poison' the only thing I have heard is that some cans have some kind of plastic of polymer material lining the inside that may contain BPEs.

  • Love the info you provide. One part you left out (????) that was the deal breaker for me (unless I am missing something.) I just bought the FIFO Can Tracker system and it doesn't seem to fit the larger soup cans, Progresso, Chunkey, etc. which is what I have a LOT of and was looking to consolidate. If I had realized that I would have went with the other brand......unless you know of a way I can make those fit in the FIFO??

  • @MrsDocWho

Actually I'm not sure. I know they have multiple size connector rods to accommodate at least 2 sizes. They may make them for the longer cans too.

You are right, that is a big deal, since many bean, soup, etc cans are the larger size. That's why I mentioned the customize-ability of the shelf-reliance model.

  • Great variety of canned food ! Glad I have options for shelves.

  • @SECRETBOL

yeah having different kinds/sizes of shelves helps figure out optimal storage methods. Thanks for the comment

  • ive been wanting to put something like that into our pantry i think that the shelfreliance set would be the one id want but id want to make it my self out of wood just because the place in the pantry i want it is under the stairs so its a limited area and i want to get a max amount of cans into that area and that way it would free up a big area under that place for our 5 gal buckets and our home canning jars

  • Great Review! Thanks for taking the time to post it.

  • Thank you for review

  • Thank you for taking the time to show us these to products. I am finally getting my act together to properly organize the pantry. Your video has been even more helpful than the manufacture site. Satisfaction to you for your service to the community.

  • I got the mini can tracker from The ready store. It only has a bottom and feeds from the top, no middle row. However if you have noticed, it takes up more room than placing the cans sitting on end side by side. So it takes up more room on a shelf than you can place different cans of food side side.

  • The rods for the FIFO apparently only come in the 2 sizes, and the large does not fit the chunky size cans. Next time I will be buying the shelf-reliance....thanks to your helpful video!! =)
