The reason they have TWO HOUSES would be for media reasons, given the hoopla surrounding celebrity couples and how, like their creator and his wife, the mice keep their private lives separated from their public ones. THAT is why we have some instances where they are married and others where they just court one another.

See, for the mice, they are NOT ONLY the alter-egos of Walt & wife Lillian (since they COME FROM them and were written BY & FOR them, never mind that Jimmy McDonald--second Mickey voice--told Wayne Allwine--third Mickey voice--to "remember, you're just filling in for the boss"), Walt HIMSELF confirmed in 1933 that the two mice HAVE BEEN privately married since their creation (in the eyes of the studio), BUT the reason they play like endless lovers would be 'cause Minnie IS Mickey's leading lady.

@ztslovebird: Well Goof had a son BEFORE Max--Goofy Jr.--in the 60's, back when Pluto & Goofy first started having shorts. If that means Goofy Jr. WAS Max or a different character entirely can only be clarified by Disney. Anyhow, the reason the MAIN couples don't have kids is because they're to REMAIN eternally young and for that, they have to STAY as endless lovers, despite all the merch. depicting them married (In the eyes of the studio, they ARE married, but for the public, they AREN'T).
