Using for classroom purposes only: no infringement intended concerning the use of images, music, and footage from the film, To Kill a Mockingbird, and the Nike "Courage" commercial (see credits at the end).

Atticus Finch compels his children to find the meaning of true courage, moral courage. How do we define courage within ourselves? Society's general definition of courage may not immediately consider issues of morality. For example, can courage be defined as acting on what's right instead of what is immediately popular? This is a central theme that readers of Harper Lee's work, To Kill a Mockingbird face again and again, and so it is important for us to think about why Lee wanted us to take notice and approach this subject, courage, this way.
