  • ... you type from your desk made from countless trees felled by clearcut deforestation with heavy equiptment. Get of your high horse and put your complaints to a useful cause, rather than a few guys felling a tree by hand instead of going to lowes and buying lumber.

  • What a workout. They claim that the old time loggers would burn between 8,000 and 10,000 calories a day! My great great grandfather was one and lived to be 101 years old!

  • something about taking down a tree the old way, without a chainsaw, just appeals to me. I love the feeling of taking down a tree. Watching the tree fall and thinking about the things it will turn in to. A shelter, a longbow, or even some carved out art if it's pine. It's a good experience that any outdoorsman has to do at least once in their life. I may be young at 17, but I understand the sense of accomplishment when something works the way you want.

    Old timers were from a different cut than the generations that followed thats for sure. Sorry about your loss however.

    My great grandpa died about 1 month before I was born, was 5'5 and could lift 2 rail road ties all day. Got a picture of him show boating with 2 on his shoulders....he was a power house.
