Hi all,

This is a video taken at the railway which I volunteer at (steam department), the Battlefield Line Railway, at Shackerstone.

LNER B1 Class No1306 "Mayflower", has been based at the line since late 2007. The locomotive was built in 1948 by the North British Locomotive Company (Glasgow). She never carried the lovely LNER Apple Green livery which she wears today during her working life. This was because, though she was designed by the LNER, she was built following the company's nationalisation into British Railways. Though initially preserved at Carnforth, she was bought by the her current owner in 1978. Following working on the GCR she moved to the Nene Valley Railway. The locomotive visited the Battlefield Line (our line) in 2006 for the winter before returning to the NVR. During her winter 2007 visit, the locomotive lost her home at the NVR and her base was subsequently transferred to Shackerstone.

Now a regular performer, the beautiful locomotive is steamed on peak days and during special events. Today (1.11.09), was the last day of normal, seasonal services on the line and so, naturally, the striking B1 was rostered for use.

The shots in this video are all taken at Shackerstone station. HOWEVER, please note that some of the shots were taken in area's that are OUT OF BOUNDS to the general public!

The locomotive, for your interest, will steam on the remaining dates in 2009:-
*Santa Special Weekends= 4 services per day (First three weekends in December). Please note that seats on Santa trains MUST be booked in advance.

The locomotive will then be winterised from late December until Easter, when the Battlefield Line opens its doors for the new season! Why not come and see her on the Santa's or even in 2010? This locomotive has to be one of the best-kept steam engine's in preservation. A striking eastern masterpiece you might say!

Enjoy!

  • There is during most diesel gala's (ran by the railway). We're about 10 miles from there. There may be a bus not ran by the railway running on saturday's. Might be worth looking in to. On a steam weekend, Shackerstone is a good day out! lol

  • well theres just the problem of getting there, unless there is a bus from nuneaton station for something

  • I don't think there is any chance of that! lol. She has already been on two holiday's this year (to North Norfolk in February and to Llangollen in April) and I think it will be a while before she goes anywhere again. Why not come and see her at Shackerstone? Keep an eye on our special events for 2010. You may even get to see Sir Gomer, Blue Circle and Mayflower all in steam on one weekend. lol.

  • or why not (speaking to the battlefield line) loan her to the GCRN for a time next year? you know you want to!
