My eyes stayed locked with Joe's while we talked and ate. His smile was so beautiful, and his laugh was just so infectious, I had to laugh myself. We've been asking each other questions the entire time, occasionally sharing a laugh or two. Thankfully, they hadn't been too personal, so I was able to answer them truthfully. I had taken off my jacket, feeling more and more comfortable, "So," he said, smiling that beautiful smile, "If you don't mind me asking...was Tyson...your only boyfriend?" He looked up at me, his eyes wary. I smiled, "Yes, he was. It was never that I got the chance, I just didn't seem that interested in others, since none of them seemed to be with me."
Joe chuckled, "I really find that hard to believe." he remarked. I turned my head to the side, "Why's that?" When he didn't answer, I looked up, and saw him staring right at me, my eyes reflecting off mine, "Because you're captivating. Everything about you, your voice, your eyes, your smile..." he smirked slightly, "...It's suspect. I half expect you to be an angel and sprout wings at any second." At the word 'angel', I laughed slightly, "Yeah, an angel, huh?"
"Hey, with your smile, it's possible!" Joe said, grinning.
I began to wonder whether it was the Charm doing this, or if I...or if I was really falling in love with him. My inanimate heart felt like it had a beat, for it began to deafen my hearing.
But, I did manage to hear something, "Hey, you want to go outside?"
I looked at Joe, and saw him fiddling with his fingers, looking down. I giggled, "Yeah, okay." He looked up quickly, then, once again, gave me that heart-melting smile, "Awesome!" he turned to everyone else, "Hey, we finished our food, so we'll be outside for a little bit." All of them stared, then grinned, "Go right ahead!" Nick laughed. Joe smiled as we began to head outside, then paused, "You might need your jacket, its pretty cold." I blinked, "Oh, yeah! Right, my bad..." I nearly forgot that I need to act human. Walking back to the table, I grabbed my jacket, put it on, and quickly headed back.
"You ready?" Joe asked as I walked up. I smiled up at him, "Always."
"HAVE FUN!"
I looked back and saw Lucas grinning at us, and both Nick and Kevin laughing. Joe chuckled as I rolled my eyes, "C'mon, let's go." he said, leading me outside.
----
"Look! There he is! Let's go!" My partner said, getting up. I hurriedly shoved him back down, "No! He has that Lucy girl." I whispered to him. "So? Tyson said he didn't care what happened to the others! Let's go!" he said, standing back up. Again, I pulled him back down, but this time with my nails elongated, piercing his skin, making him wince. "I just think it's best if we wait until he's alone. We know nothing about her, and for all we know, she could be an elemental like Tyson. Let's not take the risk." I said sternly. He stared at me for a second, before nodding, "Fine...can you let go of me now?" he asked, his eye twitching slightly. I stared back at him, before letting go, the blood dripping down my fingers. Wiping it off, I turned my attention back to the target and the girl, "Damn it, Tyson..." I thought bitterly.
---
I laughed again as Joe told another one of his jokes. Yeah, they were corny, but that's exactly why they were funny, no guy would ever have the guts to say that to a girl nowadays! "You're so goofy, you know that, right?" I asked him, still giggling. He smirked, "As long as it draws that angelic laugh of yours out, then I'm glad." he responded. There's that angelic remark again. I looked up at the crescent moon, now that I thought about it, how would I ever tell him? I knew I had to sooner or later. I sighed inwardly and looked down at my feet, thinking. Just then, I felt slight warmth past my hand, and looked at it; Joe's hand was very close to mine.
Looking up, I saw Joe looking down at my hand, as if pondering whether he should take it or not. Smiling, I placed my hand in his, intertwining it with his fingers. He smiled again, and closed his hand around mine, "Your hands are chilly." he commented. I sighed slightly, "Does that bother you?" I asked him. He suddenly squeezed my hand, and smiled, "As long as you hold it back, no, it doesn't." he said softly. Even though my ability was weakened, I could still feel the honesty in his words, and smiled. I pulled myself closer to him, "Then it never will bother you, because I'll never let go." I promised, meaning every single word. I felt him come closer to me, and looked up to meet his smile, "Neither will I."
