@ahblid I will be on the Coast Starlight in June 2010 - and they better have that Pacific Parlour Car .. they usually have the happy hour / wine tasting there, and the movies are on the 2nd level !

I like how Amtrak uses the ex santa fe Pacific parlour cars on ithe Coast Starlight. They should use some of the other el capitan cars as lounges on the southwest chief, zephyr and the empire builder,

Gunboy, the PPC was in Chicago on its way back to LA on the rear of the Chief. It had been in Beech Grove for a major refurbishing, prior to the relaunching of the Coast Starlight with greater ammenities come this May. That assumes that they get the CS line reopened before May. All of this was planned before the problems in Oregon.
It would have come into Chicago on the bottom of the Cardinal or the Hoosier State from Indianapolis, after being switched out of BG.

Thank you very much! That was just the kind of info I was looking.

The train it was coupled to was made up of Superliners.

Which I would assume was the SW Chief. I couldn't tell from the video, but I know that it went out on the Chief on the 7th.
The car was released from BG on the 6th, which should mean that it would have come in on the Cardinal which only uses single level equipment.
By the way in case your curious, it was car #39973.

As Chicago is where most repairs and paint jobs are done, I would have to assume that it was to get the new Phase V paint scheme you saw on it. Given that the Coast Starlight is still abbreviated, Amtrak may have taken the opportunity to do the necessary refurbishing it has done on many other cars.
