  • And uh, out of curiosity, why is this the 1st gen Highlander???

  • Hi Toyotafor Corolla:

At Toyota, we have focused our efforts on developing the fuel-cell technology rather than body styling. The first generation Highlander platform has allowed us to demonstrate the ability to package all the fuel-cell components in a conventional vehicle without sacrificing passenger/luggage space.

  • Hi demigo123 & giantquesadilla:

Currently, hydrogen gas pricing is not fixed, but the Department of Energy targets future pricing at $2 to $3 per kilogram.

    Thanks,

  • Wow. This is even better then GM's hybrid cell technology.

You guys did say you were going to have a hybrid choice for all your models by 2020 Right?

  • Hi ToyotaforCorolla -

We plan to offer a hybrid version of every passenger car in our lineup IN the 2020s.

  • @ehnriko

    1KG of Hydrogen = 1 Gal of gasoline = 3.78541178 liters

Keep in mind that they are talking about energy equivalents.

How far you can go depends on how efficiently you can convert the energy content of your fuel into mechanical motion.

Why don't they just give us vehicles that can get 60-70 MPG of gasoline?

The infrastructure for distribution of gasoline is already in place.

  • this will be the car of the future

  • 1 Kg of Hydrogen is how much Liters in Gas form?

  • He said they had ~6kg of hydrogen gas in the tanks and Denise said that future pricing for hydrogen will be roughly $2-$3 per kg. so at most an $18 refill. Not bad but we would have to refill it more often. Hopefully they will reach their goal of reaching the mileage of a gasoline powered car.

  • thats called a kluger in australia, latest version is awesome

  • Excelent!

  • Because it was developed before the 2nd Gen was launched. I think the first FCHV Highlander was in 2005.

  • For the last 18 months, GM has been more interested it's hinny than hydrogen. N1 doesn't like hydrogen so GM is a changin' it's tune.
