I agree with your analysis. The Aloha show was supposed to be a preview show beamed around the world so that it would get fans excited about Elvis finally coming to their country and cities. It is said the Colonel was worried about Elvis traveling overseas with guns and drugs on his plane, but since then we have learned the Colonel was an illegal alien and couldn't travel abroad himself. The Colonel screwed up the Star is Born role by demanding top billing over Streisand and a piece of the sales
