To me, a Kiai is the roar of the Beast Inside that must be denied in order to live in "civilized" society. It begs to be let out and, in the end, it won't be denied.
Mine tends to come out as a loud,"HYOOOOOOO-AH!"
Everyone should let theirs roar with pride! It feels good.

That was powerful. More comming in PM when i wake up.

3) The Kiai just like life itself is something simple, yet we can devote an entire life time to growing it. Everything is this way. What you will find as you master things that it becomes demystified for you, yet in the eyes of another they see it as magical. The purpose of a teacher is to lead the student to the source of their own power so its no longer mystical to them because they can now do it. Then that student becomes a teacher and it never stops. This is the way it should be.

2) A kiai comes from under your gut and is the sound that is made when this is compressed and it forces the air out through the body to the your mouth. The 1st time someone feels this its pretty cool. It the result of the entire body engaging in an action and its powerful. This sound is unique to everyone. I learned mine after I was instructed to breathe in, perform the move and expel all my air as I said " Ha!", funny how it did not sound like " Ha" when I finally got it.

1) " It's said one's voice is the sound of their Qi/chi/ki. Truth? ", Qi is a vague term, in some styles Qi is taught this way, however when we teach at my school we define our terms so the student understands 1st, then they can apply it and build upon what they were taught. Believe it or not there are actually entire volumes dedicated to the various sounds and of a kiai, Like, " Hup, To, Sup, Sha, etc. " and it is treated like some secret way of breathing, actually this is unnecessary.

Means a lot from you, Gordon!
I was trying to emulate some of your cuts; Perhaps I could go as far as to say I have Dan in Gordon-Jutsu? LMAO

Ohhhh yeah. People often joke about "Funny Noises", or "Pointless yelling", but I have two things to say to those naysayers;
One; Khi'ai isn't a "Sound you make". It's a "sound you let out."
I basically discovered mine on what was my last cut of the day a couple years ago; it often comes out as "Sai!" or "Saiyaa!". But I more reserve that sort of thing for scream therapy, or when I need it. It's said one's voice is the sound of their Qi/chi/ki. Truth? I go from silk to sandpaper in .05, LOL

Thanks much, Greg!!
I was worried most about how my Khi'ai might come off to some people whom practice more peaceful ways, as well as the explicit lyrical content of the music I used.

Thanks, Demzly! Means a lot coming from you; I have more respect for you than I do a lot of martial artists. You're not afraid to look, or outright be silly, and your "Crane in a Storm" Gungfu is pretty sweet.
Thanks, Man!
