What do you think will happen to a country where insurance premiums can be OVER £2000, but fines for being uninsured are UNDER £200?

Uninsured drivers kill around 200 people every year on Britain's roads, and injure hundreds more. Uninsured drivers are ten times more likely to have a drink driving conviction, six times more likely to drive a vehicle that is not roadworthy and four times more likely to have a conviction for driving without due care and attention. It is estimated that one in twenty drivers are now uninsured.

But while the number of uninsured drivers is on the increase, the average fine for driving without insurance has actually fallen from £224 to £185 over the past few years.

So it would seem that one solution would be to help younger drivers get lower premiums. Insurance comparison websites such as moneysupermarket.com and gocompare.com all offer the chance to compare premiums and cut costs.

Other incentives include the Pass Plus test. Fifteen leading insurers including Churchill, Norwich Union, Swinton and Zurich offer discounts of 5-35% to drivers who pass the six-hour course within a year of passing their driving test.

The best defence, however, is for honest policyholders to take a zero-tolerance approach to uninsured drivers. If you know someone is driving uninsured, you need to report it immediately - remember, any damage they cause whilst THEY are uninsured comes straight out of YOUR pocket.

  • wow 1 in 20 people don't have insurance., if they can't afford take the friggin bus.

however, i think the insurance is a bit ott, bring it right down for young male drivers to the amount it is for females, THEN if they crash make it expensive. why make it expensive when you could be a great driver?

  • That sounds incredibly sensible. Unlikely to reach the insurers brains comfortably though! They don't want to be the first ones to have to pay out for a crash ;)

  • That crap is bullshit, pass plus and comparison websites don't fuckin make it cheap, its still well over 2k. If they want to stop younger males goin uninsured then bring in a new law to stop insurance companies charging more than 1k for a car smaller than 1.2litre. If not then the number of uninsured drivers will just increase. Oh yeah I forgot insurance companies have government in their pocket.

  • Not in there pocket .... more like dangling from puppet strings! Sadly, engine size doesn't really affect crash records. The same idiot driver will lose it on a country lane whether it's 1 litre or 4.

  • 419,000 people die annually in the UK from all causes... uninsured drivers kill 200 people annually... "the sheer scale of the problem" is a drop in the frikking ocean! Infact, nearly as many people strike the national lottery jackpot as get killed by uninsured drivers... I believe the real problem is not uninsured drivers, but unliscenced drivers who have not been trained properly. Insurance is a scam.

  • Pure propaganda nonsense, the system in place around driving exists solely for the profit of insurance company shareholders, and no one else.

  • @truthnexus true indeed

  • i tried to get insured on a 1litre car, in march, it came up to 1700 to add me on the policy, i checked again when the renewal was due, about 2 weeks ago, it went up to 4000! what the fuck! the insurance policy in this country is bullshit! in america, you got 16 year olds driving muscle cars n shit! and over here, an 18 year old cant even get insured on a 1 litre? ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE!

  • I wonder if this propaganda was paid for and pushed by Insurance Companies. I wonder how safe roads would be if there was no insurance. Where people had to pay out of pocket for their mistakes? I guarantee you, people will be forced to drive safer and more responsibly.

  • I remember when I drove my car uninsured for like a month or so. I used to pay monthly but one month work under paid me causing me to fuck up my payment. Yeh I saved some money still but It's not worth it. Everytime you drive past a police car, looking anxiously in the rear mirror to see if they turn around or follow you. I was stupid and should of just walked, biked or got public transport. Never again. But I can see why so many do it. Its too dear thats why I have to pay monthly

  • This video would be more suitably titled "Watch us manipulate data to make us seem like the good-guys while we rip you off with our insane prices, and make uninsured drivers seem like they actually have an effect on you..."...fucking whore bag, why doesn't she state how many people WITH insurance kill people per year? It would be a damn site more than 200...I fucking hate the law

  • No wonder people are driving without insurance. 3k for a fiesta, this is madness.
