A delightful rendition of Portia's famous speech to Shylock to mitigate the stern, cruel justice he wishes to exact from his enemy, Antonia.

  • Booza90 you just saved my life!!

  • But how? How did this video save your life? Were you looking for an effective interpretation of the speech, for, say, a drama class assignment, and this pointed the way? HOW? Please!

  • is there really only one video on youtube of this speech?

  • Oh, there are many versions of the Mercy Speech on the Tube and other Video sites, to be sure! Some are quite good, but I hardly see how anyone could surpass that of the great Katherine Hepburn who played Portia in the early 1950s at Stratford.

  • For a woman ..... Portia sure does talk like a patronizing middle aged man .....

  • Yes, it 'tis a bit comical, but we must remember that Merchant of Venice is, itself, defined as a 'comedy' in the Shakespeare canon. So why not spice up the famous speech with a paper-puppet?

  • INTERHIGH PLOX

  • this is really good.. helps me learn it ...but still it is a wee bit odd, seeing a paper pupet speak and look directly at me and to me... lol it is helpful though...

  • It is a verse passage.

  • This is fun. Is this famous speach a verse or a prose? do you know?
