This is a clip from a very rare version of Sheryl Crow's first big hit, with the spoken introduction completely edited out. I call it the "WPLJ Edit" because New York City's 95.5 WPLJ is the only radio radio I have ever heard play this version. Allegedly they did the edit themselves because they didn't like the references to "this ain't no disco" (since WPLJ still played plenty of Disco music back then) and "this is L.A." (since they are a New York City station).

Unfortunately I am not able to feature anything longer than this brief clip, because Universal Media Group (UMG) is blocking this song from YouTube, and they denied my "Fair Use" claim to feature even just a few more seconds of it. If you want to hear more, I guess I'll have to do music piracy the old-fashioned way and dub you a copy of the cassette tape! :-)

  • the radio stations where I live do this sometimes they edit the song like this. and as for the copyright BS couldnt you make an mp3 of this song and send it to my email.

  • Unfortunately the quality of this tape is very bad. If you wanted the full version, what I'd do is just take this intro and splice it onto the rest of the regular version (ripped from CD).

  • @cream4rmsomeyounguy Sorry, I have not been able to find it anywhere.

  • sonng actually sounds better with that intro

  • Follow-up to last comment - I found a suitable hand clap at the simply the best sound site. duplicate 7 times at 1 sec. interval, layer & offset at least twice min. per channel. Offset right channel slightly for wider stereo image. WPLJ processing makes it difficult to imagine what it would sound like "dry" (no processing) but the edit can be duplicated with relative ease. I recreated it twice for exercise, once with Audition on PC and Amadeus Pro on Mac. Both came out fine.

  • I re-created the edit with nothing more than Adobe Audition. I don't have the handclaps to insert but it was simple to remove the vocal just using the parts where there is no singing. If you can locate a handclap loop you could recreate this edit exactly.

  • yeah Nm then thx anyway.
