It appears that the string is the only thing allowing this craft to hold it's position. Otherwise, it would just blow away downwind because the wind force on the rotor is much greater than any thrust generated by the prop. How about a video showing it actually moving forward without the aid of a string?

I'm sorry my friend, you've got it the wrong way round. Look closely! You should be able to see the woollen thread blowing in the wind. The string is the only thing preventing it to blowing upwind!

The boat can work against the wind because the power of the windmill is more than the drag of the wind. There is a propeller under the water at the front of the boat - the pull of the propeller is more than the drag of the windmill. The wind power is driving the boat against the wind!
