I believe in a literal heavenly Father, because I believe in a literal Jesus. I believe the Bible is literally true, because it testifies of Jesus who IS, according to His own testimony, the TRUTH. If I am wrong, and I do not believe for a second that I am, what have I lost? Credibility? I have never claimed to be the truth, but I believe in Him, not just the concept, but the One who "became flesh and dwelt among us." He is the Truth, and the truth is love.

"And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32) The truth is not merely facts but a person. Jesus said of Himself, "I am the way, THE TRUTH, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). Facts can be misleading, depending on how you interpret them, but Jesus IS the TRUTH. Facts might try to tell me that God is vindictive and arbitrary, but Jesus shows me something different. And Jesus said, "he that hath seen Me hath seen the Father."

Take what Paul says about Abraham's two children Ishmael and Isaac: "For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants," Ishmael representing the old covenant which is bondage, and Isaac who represents the new covenant which is based on much better promises (see Hebrews 8) and sets us free.

He (John) further states that, "the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth" (John 1:14). Either John (among others) and Jesus Himself were colossal liars or just fantastic story tellers, or the Bible is literally true. That's not to say that the Bible doesn't contain plenty of metaphor, because it does. Even many (if not all) of the literally true stories are allegorically prophetic.

I guess the reason I believe the Bible is literally God's Word (or at least a transcript of it) is because the truth it contains is so dynamic and so powerful, I would have difficulty believing it was anything other than divinely inspired. Also, I have no reason to doubt that Jesus of Nazareth was and is a real person, and He was the One who said concerning the Old Testament writings that, "they are they which testify of Me" (John 5:39). John refers to Jesus Himself as "The Word" (John 1:1).

As I see it, the Bible is only one of God's
"books" or perhaps more accurately libraries. Nature, though it has also been damaged by sin, is another. I see the handiwork of the divine (not God the person) in everything, even where sin has obscured the perfect picture God originally intended it to portray. His other book is personal experience.

In fact, back in March, I was convinced that G-d (her)self told me what to do next and how to proceed from bed to running.
I have followed instructions and... well, you've seen the results.
I don't beleive in hell, except as "an absence of His love", which can be terrible once you've lived with it for a while.
What I can't figure out is why this particular book seems literally true to you, when I see the divine in everything.
That's love.
I would like to produce your work.
