On December 21st 2009, the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay was to cross the Grand River and enter the heart of Six Nations Indigenous territory. Earlier in the Month, Youth from Six Nations, as well as the Men's and Women's Fire Councils pronounced that the Torch would not enter the heart of their land. "We Already Have a Fire for This Land!" The torch was forced to re-route and the day was a success for the folks from Six Nations and the Olympic Resistance Movement. for more info: no2010.com - peaceculture.org - olympicresistance.net

  • There is NO amount of money the government can spend to right the wrongs of its nearly wiping an entire people off the planet. And they don't pay taxes because they are Sovereign, as such not a Subject, or i should say Citizen able to BE taxed. They are their OWN Nation.. Why am i explaining this.. you seem to have the capacity to rattle off what i would hope to be researched statistics, so Research, you're the only one crying and whining.

  • @604Ronnie "There is not a native alive today that has had their "land stolen"." I never said anything about them having their land stolen to add quotation implying that "I" said it. But, the sad part is, those Natives alive today are but a minute percent in number and culture of their former state before the white man. The Natives was stripped of their culture and Taught the white mans of Money, Greed, Excess, Selfishness. That's even why descendants of Slaves are still just slaves to money.

  • Wow.. Selfish people!

  • .....groups controlled the best land, had best access to resources etc. - Hence a class system. A group (euros) came along with beter weopons, higher intellect, etc came along and moved them out of top spot.. Borders, people, rights, cultures etc are not static concepts. Really 33 million of us aren't going anywhere so live it.

...actually as Mongloid (chinese) this is technically my land.

  • @DHMIII When will they realize that they have been conquered and this is no longer "their land" - What do you mean "their land" They migrated here just like the rest of us. Their existed no law or frame work in Canda by natives prior to the first EURO settlers that made illegal the expropriation of land so therefore not illegal. Illegal perhaps by todays laws, but they are retroactive ..that far at least. The law of the land was that the group with largest, healthiest, most resourceful ....

  • @604Ronnie Their wealth was their land - which was taken. They were put on to reserves with little resources and placed under legislation of colonial benevolent despotism. The Canadian government is responsible for creating this dependency and is guilty of cultural genocide. To this day we still break treaties made with the native people and pollute and build on their land destroying their communities. They should get a lot more than government "handouts"

  • @DHMIII There is not a native alive today that has had their "land stolen". Do you see African Americans in large numbers crying for reparations because of slavery? As far as being a "sovereign nation", then why do a very large number of them rely on a handout from the Canadian government? Why not have the very wealthy native governments help their own people? Native council governments are screwing their own people more than the white man ever did.

  • @DHMIII The chief of the Squamish nation lives in a mansion in West Vancouver, the wealthiest postal code in Canada, and makes more money than the premier of the province. While people on his reserve live in squalor. Native band governments have been given millions in deals and large parcels of prime real estate in Whistler basically to keep quiet during the Olympics. Native "governments" are known to be some of the most corrupt around. But the provinces dare not say anything to them.

  • Anything bought on an Indian reserve or delivered there is exempt from taxes. Everything from TVs to automobiles. Natives living on reserves do not pay income tax.

The federal government spends $7 billion a year on Natives. The provincial governments spend $3 billion on Natives. And that's not counting the $1 billion lost in exempt income taxes or the multitude of other free goodies. Medical, Dental, education, etc.

I guess it's still not enough for them. Cry me a river.

  • well done!
