Drug use afflicts US city of Baltimore - 10 Oct 08

Drug abuse continues to be a major problem in the United States, though neither the Democratic or Republican presidential candidates have said much about how they would deal with it.

Al Jazeera's Monica Villamizar reports from Baltimore, a city that has struggled to deal with its inner-city drug problems.

So you think people are born with already-formed beliefs? You think that if a child is beaten, that that child will grow up to be the same kind of person that he would have been if he had grown up with loving parents? Who were your role models as a child? And how do you think they influenced you? A person who makes a mistake is still a person, and their mistake is not dictated by genetics. I was a heroin and cocaine addict for 15 years in Baltimore I been to 19 rehabs 1 long term state prison twice federal prison I tried AA and NA but being on the needle exchange program they put me on the methadone program and it saved my life I been clean 4 years everything I lost I have slowly regained back. I'm not going to lie sometimes I miss it but I refuse to go back to that life style. Thank God for the needle exchange program and methadone.

Sounds to me like all of those problems will be fixed with legalization. The addicts will never disappear, but if drugs are legal, addicts that want help can get it. Legalization would make the drugs themselves safer, and would cut the violence down to virtually zero. Do you think people will get shot over buying their drugs at a store? I hope every day that legalization comes as soon as possible, because situations like these should not be allowed to happen.
