My initial impressions on my new Dlink dir-655 wireless n router.
*Please note: After making this video I learned you can't use the USB port for networking a Hard Drive. Sorry* Keep in mind this video was originally made February 2008 but was taken down when I closed my blue42richman account. Since it was a popular video I have decided to re-upload it for you all to enjoy.

  • if i bought one of these could i just go put it in my room and plug it in to the telephone port and the power cord then put an ethernet cable in the back that connects to my 360 and another one that connects to my laptop or would i have to plug it into the modem which is downstairs?

    Thanks

  • I assume you have DSL because if you have dial up this router, and xbox live, won't work. Anyway, you need a modem to interface with the telephone line and the router. Then you can connect to your xbox and play xbox live.

  • Hi.

I have a network camera on the top of my building (14 floor) and I live on the 10 floor (25 meters dinstance) with many concrete walls. Do you thing it will work fine?

  • It should work unless the concrete totally destroys the signal. If your current router works though, this one should too.

  • This router fluctuates in wireless. Got the dlink bridge 1655 when I connect it to tis router it says that I'm getting an excellent connection in text but not the performance.

  • at least the gui is better than Netgear's. I have a WNR2000 and the web interface is the thing that pisses me off the most.

  • anyone buying a 17 inch macbook pro is an idiot

  • @Fubarednoob

And I'm sure just because you test drove a car means that the car is always going to drive that good. It's not about "testing" it before you buy it. Try living w/ it, using it 12+ hours a day then tell me how it performs, if its like mine you'll find it crashes horribly often, speed drops randomly for hours at a time and has trouble at high resource tasks. PS: I install/mantain networks as a side job so gtfo w/ your "n00b"

  • Supposedly if you have the router in the vertical position, the signal is stronger.

  • I don't know why people like Chicoman67 and

    Plasicpopcorn4 are moaning.

I work in a retail shop and get to test many routers before i buy.

I found this router better than all Netgear routers, but the dir-855 Extreme is a very good router if you have deep enough pockets.

The Dir-655 Router is perfectly capable for anything if the user has a good knowledge of their computer equipment. Not recommended for "noob" Types!

  • The DIR-655 router is a piece of shit! I'm speaking from experience. If you bought this....return it now! You will really love it when your connection speed drops for no reason at all to 1MBPS.

Firmware upgrades are a joke! ALL OF THEM! It's the router! Buy NetGear.....their stuff is far superior.

  • Not sure the luck that others have but I've had 4 linksys wireless routers for reasons other than failure just upgrading purposes, and to me their routers are way better. Want a permanent fix for Dlink routers. 1. Take router and disconnect from network 2. Take hammer and smash it very well. That is all its good for. Taking out frustrations, and you'll feel happier.

  • Yes I agree with Plasticpopcorn4 this router is complete crap. It does exactly that it drops wireless constantly, needs to be reset constantly. And is very frustrating when you trying to get things done. Not that it matters but, YOU HEAR THIS DLINK!!!!! IF YOU CANT MANUFACTURE STUFF THAT WORK DECENTLY DON'T MAKE IT YOU DUMB RETARDS.

  • With the latest firmware you can use a usb hdd ;)
